SOS Education

SOS Education: What Have our Doctors been up to?

Each of our doctors at Sydney Ophthalmic Specialists are passionate about education within their specialised field of ophthalmology. They are each involved in numerous councils, committees and associations outside of the SOS clinic. Our doctors often travel between states & indeed countries to participate in sharing the latest information & technological advances in ophthalmology with their  colleagues. This participation & commitment to education is essential in maintaining the high standard of eye care in our practice.

When summarising our doctors’ involvements in the many conferences, seminars & symposiums that have been held over the past twelve months it is quite impressive to see how many sessions have been chaired & how many presentations have been delivered by our terrific ophthalmic team at SOS.

From Melbourne to Mexico, Cambodia to Japan (with many cities in between) our ophthalmologists have travelled to a combined seven countries in the past twelve months! Their efforts to stay up to date with education, research & technology is driven by a shared motivation to deliver the most comprehensive ophthalmic care possible.

This month we take a look at Dr Martin’s contribution to education. Earlier this year Dr Martin attended the World Ophthalmology Congress (WOC) in Mexico & spoke on Evidence Based Medicine in the Daily Practice of a Paediatric Ophthalmologist. He did another presentation on Health Care Services to Detect Vision Problems in Preschool Children.

At the Asia-Pacific Academy of Ophthalmology congress held in Taiwan this year, Dr Martin chaired a symposium on Childhood Blindness and Vision Impairment in the Asia Pacific Region. He also chaired a symposium on Myopia & was elected Chair of the Asia Pacific Myopia Society. He has certainly been busy!

Our doctors are involved in the education & training of a multidisciplinary eye care team including fellow ophthalmologists, ophthalmology registrars, general practitioners, optometrists, ophthalmic nurses & orthoptists. We aim to provide an ophthalmology update to optometrists and GPs by way of hosting CPD accredited education events in our Macquarie Street practice through out the year.
